RE-ASSESSMENT UPDATE
Cronin, Cronin & Harris, P.C., our counsel for protesting the recent re-assessment of the Landings, has been in contact with the Town of Southampton and notified us on May 18 of its disposition. Brad Cronin’s update to the Board states:
“As you know, I had successfully negotiated a reduction in the above-noted matter which resulted in a Stipulation and Court Order reducing the assessment.
On May 1, 2012, the Town of Southampton published their tentative tax roll which reflected an increase in the assessment back to the original assessment for your property.
I immediately contacted the Town of Southampton Assessor’s Office to discuss this issue. The Assessor’s Office has advised that the majority of these increases appear to have been a result of a program that automatically reinstated the assessment and was not part of an individual review.
A list is being sent to the Assessor’s Office in order for them to review whether this increase can be immediately administratively corrected so that all future bills reflect the settlement figure.
The Town of Southampton has advised us that they will review each of the properties on the list that we are forwarding to them in order to verify that the increase should not have taken place. We have filed a complaint during the grievance period to preserve all rights regarding this matter.
As soon as we have verification that this increase was in error, we will contact you to confirm that the prior settled figure has been adopted. Assuming that this increase is reduced administratively, the assessment will be reduced while preserving your right to obtain an assessment reduction below the prior settled amount.
Thank you for your cooperation and we will keep you advised as this matter progresses.”
Respectfully,
The Board of Managers
