Covid-19 Precautions for the Community

As you know, the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut tri-state area has become an epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States, with more than half of the confirmed cases nationwide occurring in these three states. The population of the east end has swelled given that fact that NYC residents are fleeing stricter controls for their second homes.  The influx has drained local supermarkets and challenged towns with tiny police forces and few hospitals.  Southampton, an area comprising more than a dozen hamlets and villages has seen the population soar in the last two weeks to nearly 100,000, up from 60,000.

As a result of the increasing risk of exposure to the coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19, the Board of Managers is recommending additional measures that we all should consider to protect our community as the season begins.   We recognize the challenges facing residents who reside in the tri-state area, and ask everyone to protect themselves and their loved ones. The board requests that everyone act in consistency with the requirements of New York State and the Center for Disease Control.

Given concerns that residents of these states could generate community spread by traveling elsewhere, it is critical that everyone limit the number of guests visiting The Landings. We continue to welcome guests to our neighborhood  consistent with the recommendations of the Governor and ask that everyone keep in mind their health and that of the community.

The board is also recommending:

  • Everyone adhere to the guidelines of spacing distances of 6 feet.  The same applies to all common areas.
  • request that during this unprecedented time that owners/renters limit occupancy to the immediate family only and not to congregate on the common areas.   We are complying with Federal/State and Local government rules with their indicated prohibitions.
  • If you must visit neighbors, to the extent that one neighbor stay inside or behind a door is recommended.
  • If anybody has COVID-19 disclose to the board on a confidential basis so the community can take precautions and be notified that an unidentified member has been diagnosed
  • Be aware of the exposure to you and the community for those who are making deliveries, dry cleaners dropping off, responding to an emergency, housekeepers, dog walkers and other personal service providers.
  • Dry cleaning, food deliveries from restaurants and other sources are recommended to be dropped off in the parking lot instead of the front of the condo unit.
  • Until such time as the CDC, State and local governments and the Health Dept. deem it appropriate to reopen, the pool/pool area will remain closed.
  • Owners considering rentals need to have the applicant understand that we cannot guarantee use of the grounds and amenities afforded on the property including but not limited to use of the pool and pool deck.
  • It remains the CDC’s guidance that residents who were recently in the affected areas of New York, out of an abundance of caution, should self-quarantine for 14 days.

Thank you in advance, for your patience and cooperation during this very difficult time.  Through courage, compassion, and good humor and following common sense policies and procedures, we can protect ourselves and our community.  As more information is received, we will pass it along to all.
